Today, Nicki Minaj broke another Spotify record with the release of her single, “Super Freaky Girl”. The song sampled Rick James’ 1981 hit, “Super Freak,” and was co-produced by Dr. Luke and Aaron Joseph. It has already surpassed three million streams in its first 24 hours. Those who don’t follow the music scene may not be aware of the song’s significance.
This new single was a worldwide smash, and surpassed all previous records set by other artists. In addition to breaking Spotify’s streaming records, Nicki Minaj also received a Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which will be given to her on Aug. 28 at the 2022 MTV VMAs. It’s no wonder she is one of the most popular rap artists of all time.
Minaj’s song, “Super Freaky Girl,” broke the record for the most streams on a single day in Spotify’s global charts. The song also made history as the largest debut of a solo female rap song on the service. While her single isn’t likely to receive a Grammy, it’s still one of the highest-selling singles on Spotify.
