Known as the First Ladies of Hip-Hop, Salt N Pepa have finally been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The duo started their career in the early 1980s and achieved platinum sales with their first album, Hot, Cool & Vicious. Pepa was born in Jamaica and Salt was raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn. In 1985, the duo won their first Grammy Award.
In addition to being the first all-female rap group, Salt N Pepa were among the first to express female sensuality and romantic desires through their music. The group’s star will be placed at 6213 Hollywood Boulevard. The ceremony will feature speeches from MC Lyte and Roxanne Shante. The event will be broadcast live on the Walk of Fame website.

The rap group has achieved mainstream success through their empowering lyrics. Their hit singles “Push It” and “Express Yourself” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100. In 1993, their album Very Necessary became the top-selling female rap album of it’s time.
