Former Drug Kingpin Alberto “Alpo” Martinez Murdered In Harlem
Reports say that Alpo was sitting in his 2017 Dodge Ram on West 147th Street near Frederick Douglass Blvd after leaving a club. He was reportedly shot five times in the chest in a drive shooting at approximately 3:30am. He was rushed to Harlem Hospital but passed away during transport.
Alpo’s infamous drug dealing career rose during the “crack era” of the 1980’s. His association with fellow dealers Azie “AZ” Faison and Rich Porter led to reaching outside of New York in the states of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Critically acclaimed movie “Paid In Full” is based on the trio’s lives and has a cult following in the hip hop culture. Alpo’s name has been quoted in several rapper’s lyrics over a span of over 20 years.
Alpo was arrested and convicted on murder and conspiracy to murder charges in 1991. He turned state’s evidence and testified against members of his organization in order to lighten his sentence, a widely perceived violation of the street code of “no snitching“. He received a 35 year sentence, but was released in 2015. Upon his release he returned to Harlem, NY and was visible within the community.
As of this time, NYPD has no suspects in the shooting.
