The woman told 911 operator that she was a nurse but did not know the man’s address. During the 18-minute call, Ortensia Alcantara became increasingly frantic, performing CPR on Samuels. She then took him to Piedmont Hospital, where he died.

Several sources pointed to a history of high blood pressure and chest pain in Samuels. A woman who identified herself as a nurse called 911 to tell dispatchers that Samuels was complaining of chest pain and had fallen the day before. A nurse at the apartment rushed Samuels to Piedmont Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
