Super Producer Mannie Fresh Sells Catalog To Reservoir Media
In a recent interview with Music Business Worldwide, Super Producer Mannie Fresh confirmed that he is selling his music catalog to Reservoir Media. The New York-based company purchased the multi-Platinum hip-hop producer’s music publishing and recorded music rights in a deal that was not disclosed.
The deal is the latest in a growing trend of music artists and producers selling their music catalogs to different companies. Many musicians including John Legend, Zaytoven, Chuck D, Metro Boomin, Future and Iggy Azalea have sold their music catalogs to various companies in the past year.
Buying a music catalog is a major step in a musician’s career. The purchase allows a musician to be more flexible and have a variety of income streams. This is especially important when a music artist’s revenue stream is being devalued due to the recession.
Mannie Fresh is one of the most respected and well known producers in the game. He has produced hits for Lil Wayne, T.I., Juvenile, and B.G. Throughout his tenure with Cash Money Records, he helped develop some of the biggest names in hip-hop.
He is also a member of the Big Tymers duo with Bryan “Baby” Williams. They were a huge hit when they dropped their debut record on Universal Records. Featuring free-wheeling lyrical improvisation and bigger than life personas, the pair made their way through classic hip-hop with their infectious sound.
When asked about the move to sell his music catalog, Mannie told Music Business Worldwide:
“The global recession has been a huge blow to a lot of musicians and I felt like it was time for me to take some action and try to make a difference in some of the areas that are suffering. It’s really gratifying to have the opportunity to help some of these people get back on their feet.
