New Music: Nas – Magic
Nas is a hip hop icon, no doubt. Since his critically acclaimed debut album, illmatic, Nas’ presence in hip hop has been felt and continues to be embraced by the masses during generational shifts of flows, deliveries, cadences, and sounds. Surviving the times, like the lead single from his 2007 Greatest Hits album, Nas has continued to stay a respected and relevant artist.
In this year alone, he has collected his first Grammy Award with his album King’s Disease, which was solely produced by Grammy Award winning producer Hit Boy. Following up, he then dropped King’s Disease II, which was met with just as much praise as it’s predecessor and placed at #1 on it’s first week’s release. Other highlights of the year include ushering in the documentary You’re Watching Video Music Box, featuring legendary video jockey Ralph McDaniels, and debuting his podcast The Bridge : 50 Years Of Hip Hop with journalist/radio personality Ms. Info.
Closing out the year with bang, Nas drops a surprise album at the end of the fourth quarter. Titled Magic, the album runs 9 tracks deep. Features are limited with A$AP Rocky and DJ Premier and the production is once again manned by Hit Boy. With the way that things have been going, the formula is working!
