On Monday, the rapper Fetty Wap pleaded guilty to a federal charge, the first time he’s done so since his arrest in a federal drug sting. The rapper and his associates were caught in a series of state and federal drug stings, and authorities say he was running a network of organized crime. His self-titled album reached the top of the Billboard 200 and featured collaborations with Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Snoop Dogg.
The rapper’s guilty plea came just two weeks after a judge revoked his $500,000 bond. In the plea agreement, Fetty Wap pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to possess and distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of 40 years. His attorney did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
The “Trap Queen” performer was among six men arrested in October on federal drug charges. In addition to Fetty Wap, two of his co-defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Another person confessed to using firearms in connection with the drug trafficking business. The six defendants were arrested in three separate locations across the New York and New Jersey.
Fetty Wap and his co-defendants were accused of being involved in a drug conspiracy that stretched across the United States. In total, they obtained more than a hundred kilograms of drugs and transported them from the west to the east coast. As of now, there is no sentencing date yet. But the case will be resolved in due course. Just like the trial process, the sentencing process will be lengthy.
