Known as one of the top singers of the 1980s, Irene Cara passed away at age 63. She died at her home in Florida. Her publicist announced the news of her passing on Twitter.

Cara began her career as a child, when she was introduced to the world of music by her father, who was a Latin musician. The family lived in the working class neighborhood of the Bronx in New York. Cara began playing piano by ear at age five, and had a passion for music from a young age. During her teenage years, Cara worked as a background singer for several famous recording artists.

Cara became an actress and singer in the early 1980s, after she was cast in the film Fame. In the movie, she played a young dancer named Coco Hernandez. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for her performance in the film.

Cara also won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her performance in Flashdance. She co-wrote the song with Keith Forsey. She also received a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

Cara’s legacy will be impacted by her performances in movies, such as Fame and Flashdance. She was also a songwriter and producer, and her most recent musical project is a two-CD compilation. Her mother and father were very supportive of Cara’s career, and they enrolled her in dancing and acting classes.

She was the youngest child of a Cuban and Puerto Rican family. She was born in The Bronx, New York, in 1959.

Rest In Peace Irene Cara.
