Dr. Dre Inducts Eminem Into Rock N Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts Eminem, one of the most prolific rappers of the decade. The announcement follows a long list of Detroit-based artists inducted into the Hall, including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, the Four Tops, and Little Willie John.

The induction ceremony televised via HBO on Nov. 19, and featured performances by several hip-hop artists as well as Eminem himself. After receiving the honor, he performed a medley of hits. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith sang “Dream On” during Em’s “Sing for the Moment” performance. And Ed Sheeran played Dido in Eminem’s “Stan” song.

During the ceremony, Eminem thanked 40 hip-hop icons, including Dr. Dre and Tupac, as well as his mentor         Dr. Dre. He  also included LL Cool J, Fat Joe, 2 Live Crew,  Big Daddy Kane, Ice T and Redman.

Eminem’s induction was a largely surprise event. Dre, who introduced the rapper as a white, blue-eyed Detroit rapper, talked about his first encounter with the rapper in the late ’90s, and noted that he never worried about sales numbers. The pair also performed together, with Denaun Porter, Eminem’s longtime collaborator and hype man, and DJ Alchemist behind them.

Eminem was arguably the most influential rapper of the last decade, and Dr. Dre was there to help him achieve this goal. The legendary rapper was a protégé of Dr. Dre and he was instrumental in guiding Eminem’s career.
