Three 6 Mafia Rapper Gangsta Boo Passes Away At 43

Three 6 Mafia’s former member Gangsta Boo passed away on Sunday afternoon at age 43. The Memphis, Tennessee rapper was found dead at home. However, the exact cause of death has not been revealed.

Born Lola Chantrell Mitchell, Gangsta Boo became a pioneering figure in the Memphis music scene. She worked with several iconic artists, including OutKast, Lord Infamous and Eminem. After being a part of Three 6 Mafia, she released three solo albums. Her first came out in 1998, titled Enquiring Minds. It peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

A year later, she released her second studio album, titled Both Worlds *69. This album reached number 53 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. On top of her solo releases, Boo also appeared on a number of features. She also collaborated with Run The Jewels, Killer Mike and Gucci Mane.

She left Three 6 Mafia in the early 2000s, but remained active in the mixtape era. She appeared on several features and mixtapes, including Underground Cassette Tape Music 2 with Beatking. While she did not give many public accolades, she was a respected figure in the Memphis music community. Several emcees of all genders were influenced by her style.

When she was a teenager, Boo was a member of a horrorcore rap group called Da Serial Killaz. As she grew older, she made her solo debut. She also started collaborating with DJ Paul.
