Despite being one of the biggest stars of hip hop, Nicki Minaj is still one of  the only female rappers to never win a Grammy. In fact, she hasn’t won a single award in her entire career. Even her best-selling single, “Super Freaky Girl,” failed to land a nomination.

While Nicki has been able to claim several major awards and wins, her lack of a Grammy Award is a big bummer for her fans. The alleged pop category omission has fueled an online backlash. Even The Game weighed in with a Instagram story to defend the rapper.

Despite being nominated for many other awards, Minaj has never won a Grammy, and her fans are livid. In fact, a few of her peers have actually boycotted the ceremony over the years.

While the Recording Academy doesn’t air the major rap categories on its official telecast, some of the head-scratching decisions made by the organization do the trick. Minaj’s latest release, “Super Freaky Girl,” a sampling of Rick James’ classic “Super Freak,” was not nominated in the rap category, and a song by Latto, “Big Energy,” was nominated for the same award. However, Minaj is still in the dark on the award she deserves.

As far as the Grammys are concerned, the award that Minaj is most likely to win isn’t the most coveted one. The award for “Best Music Video” is more likely to go to Adele, who is competing against Kendrick Lamar and Kendrick Lamar for the title. However, even though the Grammys might be ignoring the best female rapper of all time, they are definitely showing up for the Best Rap Performance award.

Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” was a surprise hit this year, breaking Spotify’s opening record, and making her the first female solo rapper to hold the top spot since Lauryn Hill in 1998. Minaj has also made a name for herself in the world of hip-hop, breaking records for being the first solo rapper to have two songs to hit the top spot on the Billboard charts. She also became the first female to have two songs on the Billboard Hot 100 in the same year.

The Recording Academy has yet to respond to Minaj’s Twitter post about the “best song sexiest” award, but there is no doubt that she’s been left off the list of female hip-hop artists to win a Grammy. This has led to a few head-scratching decisions, as well as a bit of confusion among the rap community. Some believe that the Grammys are misguided. Other artists have refused to participate in the ceremony, including Drake, who did not perform at the ceremony last year.

There’s no doubt that the Grammys are the most prestigious awards show in the business, but they’re not the only game in town. In fact, the Grammys have a checkered history with rap.
