Houston’s Megan Thee Stallion announced August 14 that she has signed a global distribution partnership with Interscope Records through her own company Hot Girl Productions — and unlike a traditional label deal, she retains complete ownership of her masters and publishing.
According to Interscope and Hot Girl Productions’ press release: Interscope handles global distribution, marketing muscle, and strategic support for upcoming releases. Megan remains fully independent. No label owns her recordings. No publisher takes her publishing. The deal was announced via Instagram: “Owning my masters & publishing and maintaining my independence as an artist is always my priority! … ACT III IS ON THE WAY HOTTIES!!”
This comes as Reservoir Media announced a publishing deal with T.I. in July covering his entire catalog and future works, including Kill the King, which debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and Future reportedly sold his publishing catalog to Influence Media Partners in an eight-figure deal. Two opposite plays: cash-out vs keep-and-build.
Megan chose build. At 31, after label battles, graduation, and building Hot Girl Productions into a real company, she now gets major global pipes without giving up equity.
Interscope confirms distribution for Act III, her next album era, due Fall 2026. Sources say vinyl, global radio, and sync will all run through the Interscope/UMG system while creative control stays in Houston.
If you’re independent, this is your study guide: Distribution != Record Deal. You can have UMG-level reach without signing your life away. Build the company first, then rent the pipes.
