Hip-Hop Legend Trugoy The Dove Passes Away At 54

Hip-Hop Legend Trugoy The Dove Passes Away At 54

The death of hip-hop legend Trugoy The Dove has been confirmed by De La Soul representatives. Dave Jolicoeur – better known as Trugoy The Dove – was one of the founding members of the iconic New York trio, and had been suffering from congestive heart failure in recent years.

David Jolicoeur, whose real name is Dave Jude Jolicoeur, founded De La Soul in 1988 along with his high school friends Posdnuos and Maseo. They were all born and raised in the Amityville area of Long Island, New York.

De La Soul is widely regarded as one of the most influential rap groups in history, and was credited for ushering a more carefree style of rap to counter the gangster ethos of their era. Their 1989 debut, 3 Feet High and Rising, helped define the jazz rap movement that would come to dominate rap music in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Throughout their career, the three rappers drew on their diverse backgrounds in music and culture to create songs that were lyrically complex and often playful in nature. They embraced jazz, funk, and R&B influences in their lyrics and produced some of the most memorable and timeless music in the genre.

Their use of samples was also a major factor in their popularity and impact on the genre. The trio’s “You Showed Me” interlude from 3 Feet High and Rising is a prime example of their innovative use of sampling. It’s arguably the most influential sample in rap music, and a staple of hip-hop history.

The sample-heavy 3 Feet High and Rising was a landmark album in a generation of rap music that would take the art of sampling to new levels. It was the first of many rap albums that would use samples as their main source of inspiration, and it influenced artists across genres.

While the trio’s use of samples was an important part of their creative process, it was also a source of controversy. In the late 1980s, De La Soul became involved in several lawsuits over unlicensed sample usage and their records were pulled from streaming services until they were able to secure the necessary clearances.

Since then, the band has negotiated their way out of the lawsuits and secured the rights to their back catalog. This month, the trio announced that they were finally bringing their entire catalog to streaming platforms.

It’s a bittersweet moment, to say the least, that one of the group’s most celebrated members has passed away just days before they were set to bring their classic catalog back online. As a result, the loss of Trugoy The Dove will have a major impact on De La Soul’s fans and followers.

Trugoy The Dove (David Jolicoeur) – one of the founding members of the legendary New York trio De La Soul – has died at the age of 54, according to multiple media reports. The cause of his death is unknown, although Jolicoeur had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2017.

A representative for De La Soul confirmed the news to Pitchfork on Monday. The group’s other two members, Kelvin Mercer and Vincent Mason, also suffered from heart problems in the last few years.
